Darauf folgend stelle ich einige unterschiedliche therapeutische Behandlungformen der Krankheit vor und erläutere deren Vorgehen, Ziel und Wirksamkeit, sofern entsprechende Ergebnisse aus Studien dazu vorliegen.
Im fünften Kapitel befasse ich mich mit möglichen Vorbeugungsmaßnahmen, um die Entstehung von Essstörungen zu verhindern. Meinen Schwerpunkt lege ich dabei auf die Beratungsmöglichkeiten in der Schule, entweder durch Lehrpersonen oder „Beratungsteams“, die die Schule aufsuchen. Dieses Kapitel bildet auch den Abschluss meiner Arbeit.
